Digital Factory: Total accelerates its digital transformation

11/12/2019

At France’s Best Developer contest this year, Total announced that it was setting up a Digital Factory. The new facility will bring together digital specialists and experts from the Group’s various businesses to work on furthering Total’s ambition of becoming the responsible energy major.

The Digital Factory was first announced on October 17, 2019 as Total was taking part in France’s Best Developer contest, the biggest coding competition in Europe. Asked to describe the new facility in three words, Frédéric Gimenez, Chief Digital Officer and head of the project, said: “acceleration, transformation and dedication”. The grand opening is slated for early 2020.

Located in central Paris, the Digital Factory will bring together, among others, developers, data scientists, digital architects and specialists in agile working methods to collaborate alongside experts from Total’s various businesses. Their role will be to come up with customized digital solutions to further develop Total’s operations. The synergies between the different areas of expertise mean that we will be able to roll out these innovative solutions faster and with greater agility.

Digital technology can drive progress in a wide range of areas, by improving industrial operations, for example, and by reducing environmental footprints and developing innovative energy sources and new services for customers.

With the Digital Factory, Total is helping to shape the energy industry of tomorrow.
